Watts were brought into this project after Kier Group were having difficulty finding a suitable company with which they could entrust the design, fabrication and installation of feature skylights to two lightwells within the existing building.

Our design team worked on initial concept options, liaising with both architect and client to ensure all parties achieve the required completed product in terms of design, time and planning constraints and of course cost. During this time Watts were in competitive tender with professionals who are all well known as specialists in this area of work.

After weeks of meetings and design reviews Watts were fortunate enough to be awarded the contract to carry out the works to both lightwells and, in addition, all the associated works around both lightwells incorporating the following:

  • Internal acoustic walls to inside of lightwell incorporating automatic smoke detectors.
  • External flashings and composite panelling to achieve required “U” values, without compromising the required external appearance.
  • Insect screens to stop vermin ingress via the skylight areas.

All of the above completed an individual area of works to the two lightwell areas, totalling £500,000.

Whilst carrying out the works to the two skylight areas Watts were asked to work on other areas within the main project, leading to a total project value of £1.2M.
